Motorcyclist rescued by helicopter from Okanagan backcountry

A helicopter winch team was called in to rescue an injured motorcyclist from a challenging backcountry road on Friday.

Just after noon on Aug. 8, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) volunteers were tasked by BC Ambulance to help rescue an injured motorcyclist between Little White and Carmi.

The injured person had been riding with a touring group from Hwy 33 to Chute Lake Lodge when they lost control and crashed.

“COSAR deployed an initial team on off-road vehicles while a backup crew staged near McCulloch Lake,” reads a social media post.

“Due to the severity of the rider’s injuries and the rugged conditions, mutual aid was requested from Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) and their specialized helicopter winch team.”

The VSAR helicopter team arrived shortly and winched the patient from the forest, transporting them to a waiting ambulance that then went to Kelowna General Hospital.
