UPDATE: State of emergency lifted for the North Okanagan

(Update March 27, 3:30 p.m.) - The state of emergency for City of Armstrong is officially lifted.

According to the City of Armstrong, city staff will continue to monitor both Meighan and Deep Creeks.

The city also says staff will be reviewing provincial snow and river forecast data and weather predictions from Environment Canada over the coming weeks to assist in determining any advanced warnings of future flooding events.

(Original Story) - Spring has only begun but flooding concerns are already high in the Okanagan.

A state of emergency has been declared by the City of Armstrong due to flooding in areas of the community.

In a news release, the City says large volumes of water are collecting in low-lying areas as a result of recent heavy rains.

“There are currently no road closures but the City asks residents to use caution around creeks as fast moving water may cause erosion and instability of bank edges,” states the release.

In February, above average snowpack levels lead the Village of Lumby to send an open letter to the North Okanagan Region District advising its multiple reservoirs be attended to in hope of avoiding Spring flooding.

"We are greatly concerned with the current snowpack levels in the Aberdeen Plateau and are wanting to be proactive in response to potential flooding," read the letter.

On Friday morning, part of Lower Glenrosa Road in West Kelowna was closed after Thursday’s rainstorm caused the road to flood.

The closure is a span of around 900 metres from Glencoe Road to Glenway Road.
