Warriors defenseman from Kelowna commits to Division 1 NCAA program

We don’t know when the BCHL’s 2020-21 season will start, but that won’t stop promising young West Kelowna Warriors from committing to big time NCAA programs.

Today, the team announced that Kelowna product Tyson Jugnauth has committed to the University of Wisconsin for the 2022-23 season, a Division 1 NCAA program.

“We are excited for Tyson and his family to announce his commitment to the University of Wisconsin”, said Simon Ferguson, Warriors’ head coach.

“Tyson is going to be a very important player for us for the next few seasons and he’s deserving of the opportunity.”

The 16-year-old defenseman suited up for five games with the Warriors last season, but spent the majority of the year with the Okanagan Rockets of the BCMML.

He committed to the Warriors back in February and is expected to be a key cog for the team this season, whenever it begins.

“I am super excited to commit to such a great school and hockey program. It was an unreal feeling to have that phone call and finally commit,” Jugnauth said.

“I really like the city of Madison and the Big 10 conference. It also has a really good track record of putting players in the NHL.”

One of those players is another Warriors alumni and Central Okanagan product, Justin Schultz, who has forged a successful career in the NHL that includes a Stanley Cup victory in Pittsburgh.
