Thousands arriving in Penticton this week ahead of CSSHL Western Championships

Penticton will be bustling with activity over the next two or three weeks.

The city will once again play host to the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) Western Championships from March 2-16.

According to the City of Penticton, the event is expected to bring over 5,000 visitors from all over North America to the South Okanagan.

“We are proud to host this event and would like to extend a warm welcome to all the competitors and spectators who are coming to our community, many of whom are travelling great distances,” said Penticton mayor Julius Bloomfield.

“Penticton is a strong hockey community and it’s events like these that provide an opportunity for us to showcase our city on a broader scale, while supporting local businesses.”

This is year two of a 10-year agreement between the CSSHL and local partners to have this event played in Penticton every March.

The City says the annual economic impact of the 2024 event is estimated to have been $5.23 million.

Played at the South Okanagan Events Centre, the 2025 CSSHL Western Championships will feature 104 teams from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Washington and Idaho.

More information on the event can be found here, while tickets are available through the SOEC website.
