Despite a hard-fought game on Saturday night our Okanagan Sun, unfortunately, suffered their first loss of the season.
The team worked hard right up to the finish but the Westshore Rebels proved to be a strong force, ending the game with a score of 16 to 13 for the visitors.
Even in defeat, however, the team sparked a strong philanthropic spirit – prompting the community to bring in nearly 550 pounds of non-perishable food donations for the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
“We are very happily stocking our shelves with almost 550 pounds of food collected during this past weekend’s Okanagan Sun Football game,” said Tamie Williams, communications officer with the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
“We are humbled by the amazing support shown to [us], thank you to everyone who donated, and to the Okanagan Sun for allowing us the opportunity – you are all helping us create a healthy, hunger-free community.”
The Sun are up against the Vancouver Island Raiders in Nanaimo this coming Saturday, with their next home game slated for Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Langley Rams.
