There are typically RCMP and bylaw officers patrolling Kelowna’s streets, parks, beaches and waterways on most summer weekends.
This summer is no different, but with COVID-19 on people’s minds, they have a bit more to look out for.
Not only will those officers be out and actively patrolling to ensure people keep their activities safe and legal, Safety Education Ambassadors will be out as well.
Their job will be to ensure that people are practicing safe physical distancing while enjoying public spaces.
However, the RCMP and bylaw’s general duty watches and downtown enforcement unit will be looking for your typical illegal activity that isn’t allowed any weekend, not just in 2020.
"Ultimately, we hope that our increased presence by boot, bike and boat will reduce the calls for service and prevent crimes within our community,” explained Insp. Dale Somerville.
“Additionally, our officers are using our RCMP 'gator' utility vehicle to respond and patrol areas accessible only by foot and bicycle."
Somerville of the RCMP says that they’re committed to reducing crime and keeping Kelowna safe.
The Kelowna RCMP will have two boats on Okanagan Lake this weekend.
