A stolen vehicle investigation recently ended in Kelowna with what the RCMP is calling “an unusual turn of events.”
It started when members of the Proactive Enforcement Unit spotted a suspicious white Ford F350 in the 700 block of Coronation Avenue.
According to police, 43-year-old Michael Scott Miller was behind the wheel of the truck and he parked it at an apartment complex just a block away from the Kelowna RCMP detachment.
While officers did a check on the vehicle and realized it was stolen from Penticton a week earlier, Miller walked directly into the detachment and into the waiting area.
He was promptly arrested without incident.
“The circumstances of this arrest were definitely not common and made our job much easier,” said Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay. “This wouldn’t have happened without the keen eye of our officers during the execution of their duties – even if it’s a block away from their office.”
Miller is now facing several charges that include possession of stolen property, driving while disqualified and two counts of failing to comply with probation.
He’s being held in custody and is next scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, July 2.
