Kelowna’s tulip festival will be open for this weekend only.
Over 13,000 tulips of 50 different varieties have been planted at Flowers at the Farm, which is in partnership with The Clubhouse Farm, but unfortunately due to the heat, the tulips may not last much longer.
“We are hoping to get as many people as possible to see them while they are still here,” explains Jenn Murray, an event coordinator.
This is the first year of events for Flowers at the Farm, and the tulip festival was a group effort from family and friends.
“There is no way we would have been able to get so many tulips in the ground without a lot of help,” Murray says.
“We come from a big family and we have had siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles out to help us.”
Flowers at the Farm has made their tulip fields as accessible as possible.
“While attending other flower festivals, our gran and other family members with mobility issues sometimes found it hard to get across muddy fields and uneven ground without a break to sit down,” explains Kate Noga, an event coordinator.
“When we were planting our fields, we tried to think of guests like them and incorporate plenty of places to stop and take a break as well as make sure that our pathways are as clear and smooth as possible.”
At this weekend’s festival, there will be cut flowers available for $1 per stem, and all profits will go towards programs at The Clubhouse, which has been around for over 25 years.
“So much of Kelowna still doesn't know about all the good they bring to the child care community and the greater Kelowna community,” Murray says.
For the last 10 years, The Clubhouse has been welcoming kids to the farm to play outdoors, teaching them about the environment and how their food is grown.
“We would love to see young families out at the festival to enjoy the flowers and the beautiful weather, so we made the admission for kids free,” Noga adds.
On Sunday, there will also be a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea available, which can be booked in advance here.
Later this summer, Flowers at the Farm will have a sunflower festival.
Admission to the tulip festival is $12 for anyone over the age of 12.
It will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm at 4490 Anderson Road.
