Kelowna Visitor Centre to illuminate purple for epilepsy awareness on Sunday

If you’re walking downtown on Sunday, you just might notice the Kelowna Visitor Centre illuminating purple.

In support of International Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness on March 26, buildings and landmarks across BC will be lit up to show community support.

Founded in 2008 by then-nine-year-old Cassidy Megan, the purpose of International Purple Day is to show people living with epilepsy that they are not alone.

Every year, people around the world wear purple and participate in events and activities dedicated to raising awareness for epilepsy.

Participating buildings and landmarks throughout BC include:

  • Kelowna Visitor Centre
  • Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops
  • Victoria City Hall
  • BC Parliament Building in Victoria
  • Belfry Theatre in Victoria
  • Nanaimo Bastion
  • Mr. PG Statue in Prince George

Photos taken of participating buildings and landmarks can be sent to sonia@bcepilepsy.com.

Epilepsy affects approximately 1% of the population, which means there are over 50,000 people living with epilepsy in BC.

More information about epilepsy can be found at bcepilepsy.com.
