At 6:44 pm on Saturday evening RCMP responded to reports of a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian between Bernard Avenue and Lakeview Street in Kelowna.
The patient, a 20-year-old Kelowna man was rushed to hospital in serious, yet stable condition and is continuing to recover from his injuries.
After fleeing the scene, the Ford sedan and the 23-year-old Kelowna man driving it were located by police later that evening along Westside Road in West Kelowna.
The driver was taken into police custody and is facing potential charges following an impaired driving investigation. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Kelowna RCMP are now encouraging witnesses and motorist with any dash-camera footage of the incident to come forward and contact the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section at 250-762-3300.
In addition, officers are extending their appreciation to members of the public who shared information about the suspect vehicle and offered support to the pedestrian.
“It was heartening to see countless bystanders stop to provide assistance and comfort to the pedestrian who lay injured in the roadway,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for the Kelowna RCMP.
“We would like to extend our appreciation to the astute members of the motoring public who spotted our notably damaged suspect vehicle, headed towards the William R. Bennett bridge,” further states Cpl. O’Donaghey.
