Canada was pointed out to be the fourth most generous country on GoFundMe, with over $400 million raised this year (based on donations per capita).

Communities in BC turned out to be some of the most giving in the country, including Kelowna.

The top five most generous cities in Canada were Kamloops, Chilliwack, Kelowna, Nanaimo, and Victoria.

The report notes that one of Canada’s top moments in 2029 included a campaign for a young boy with a rare genetic disorder, which raised $1 million.

The next most succesful campaign riased $800,000 to open a new masjid for a Muslim community in Windsor, Ont.

Finally, the Halifax house fire tragedy that took the lives of seven children raised over $725,000 for the refugee family, and $640,000 was raised for baby Eva, who was diagnosed with SMA Type 1, which costs millions to treat.

“From moments to movements, Canadian activists took to the streets (and the internet) to rally behind their favourite causes. In response to governmental budget cuts - Canada turned to GoFundMe to protest autism therapy cuts, rally for climate justice, fix hospital overcrowding, and speak up for religious freedom. Time and time again, Canadians prove just how generous they are,” said GoFundMe.

In 2019, people all over the world donated more than 210 million times, fundraising more than $9 billion for different people and causes.
