Kelowna residents will soon see e-scooters cruising around the city.
On Monday, city council unanimously approved a bylaw amendment to permit the vehicles on all city streets as soon as April 19.
The move comes after the provincial government selected Kelowna as one of six pilot project cities in BC to test run having e-scooters on roadways.
It’s the second time e-scooters have been rolled out in Kelowna, however, they were previously limited to the downtown core, Abbott Street and on the Okanagan Rail Trail without provincial approval for roadways.
Now the vehicles are expected to be seen across the city in popular spots such as Orchard Park, the Landmark District, UBCO and the Knox Mountain area.
Helmets will be mandatory and riders must be over 16 to activate the vehicle.
However, a driver’s licence and insurance are not required.
