Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, has announced the appointment of Dan Albas as the new shadow minister of transport.
Albas, first elected in 2011, brings over a decade of parliamentary experience to his new role.
He was reelected in April for the riding of Okanagan Lake West-South Kelowna.
A statement from the Conservative Party of Canada says Albas is recognized for his "pragmatic approach to policymaking" and his strong track record of advocating for both rural and urban communities.
Throughout his political career, he has focused on issues such as regulatory reform and support for small businesses, the statement added.
The Conservative Party believes Albas will take a leading role in holding the Liberal government accountable on key transport issues.
His appointment signals a renewed Conservative focus on addressing what the party describes as critical failures in federal transportation policy, the statement added.
In his new position, Albas will focus on ensuring transportation policy supports safety, accessibility, and economic growth.
“I am honoured to take on this important responsibility,” said Albas.
“From coast to coast to coast, Canadians are feeling the consequences of neglect in our transportation sector. I look forward to working with industry leaders, stakeholders, and citizens to ensure our transportation systems are built for the future.”
Albas will go up against Liberal Transport Minister Chrystia Freeland, who previously served as deputy prime minister and finance minister.
