A new business in Kelowna is raising the bar in the food industry.
With an official launch on July 1, Fuller Food Company offers two nutritious snack bars that are low in sugar, dairy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO, vegan and kosher.
“We’re trying to make people healthier, one bar at a time,” says Colette, one of the owners. “Everybody buys or eats something based on how it tastes of course, and cookies and cupcakes always taste good, so that’s our competition.”
The owners have been perfecting the recipe since Oct. 31, 2022 when they decided to fully commit to this business idea with the intention of helping those with type one diabetes, including their children.
“We wanted our kids to be healthy and we wanted to know that what they were eating was really good for them and it wasn’t going to hurt them in any way,” Colette explains.
Both of the Fuller Bars, which are cherry and cranberry, are 60 grams, with two grams of sugar and 20 micrograms of sodium.
“I don’t think there’s a bar out there that can say that it’s that size with that low amount of sugar,” Colette says, adding that the Fuller Bar contains only clean and safe ingredients.
It was also important to the owners to create a snack bar that looks like a granola bar, allowing consumers to be able to see what they’re getting.
“That’s why in our packaging, we put a window and you can look at it and go, that’s a pecan, that’s a cranberry, that’s a chia seed, that’s a sunflower seed, that’s a pumpkin seed,” Colette explains.
Another aspect that separates this snack bar from others is that it's designed to be stored in the refrigerator for up to one month, or a freezer for longer.
“When we go down the snack bar aisle in the grocery store, they’re all sitting there with preservatives, and I can’t imagine eating something after a year and going this is so good for me,” Colette says. “So we wanted to zig where others are zagging.”
While the Fuller Bar is currently only available online and at Don-O-Ray Farms, the goal is to have it for sale in the produce section of local grocery stores.
“Even after being in the freezer for a month, you pull it out for five minutes and it’s soft and chewy, and that’s what we want because cookies and cupcakes are soft and chewy,” Colette says. “That was our aim and we pulled it off.”
For those interested in trying the Fuller Bar, Fuller Food Company will be at Don-O-Ray Farms at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 15 to give out samples, while supplies last.
