Hi! My name is Silken Maze, I was born and raised in Kamloops but only just moved back about a month ago after five years away. Kamloops reeled me back in! I am currently enrolled in a course to become a Health Coach, and my ultimate goal is to be working to help people reconnect with their bodies wisdom and healing ability, and to love themselves and their bodies fully.
Why do you use Instagram?
I use Instagram as a creative outlet and a way to express myself, and it’s my hope that through that I will inspire other people to be true to themselves and express themselves too.
What will people see on your feed?
I started my Instagram account four years ago when I made a switch to a plant-based diet, and it has been evolving with me ever since. I’ve changed the name of my account multiple times, but I’m happy with where it’s landed at “befriend your body”. My feed is filled with many pictures of food and lifestyle, and captioned anywhere in between health advice or whatever’s on my mind at the moment, basically.
Does your page have a specific style?
I suppose I would say the theme of my page is based on a whole-foods lifestyle and encourages self-love and self-acceptance.
How do you decide on your location for shoots?
The location of my photos is just wherever I happen to be when I’m feeling inspired which is usually my kitchen.
Biggest Instagram moment?
Well, my biggest ‘Instagram moment’ was probably this morning when I decided to delete my personal Instagram account in order to focus on Befriend Your Body. I think it’s a positive outlet for me and reflects who I am better than my personal account did, so it was a really good feeling!
Favourite hashtags?
I follow a few hashtags such as #veganideas , #zerowaste and #consciousconsumers because they inspire me with recipes and sustainability ideas.
Why do you follow KamloopsBCNow?
I follow KamloopsBCNow because I love to feel connected to the community. Having just moved back here, it’s nice to be in the loop. I love the In Focus articles because it’s a chance to get to know people in the community and see that many of us value the same things; supporting local businesses, sustainability and being a part of positive change in Kamloops. KamloopsBCNow showcases local talent and appreciates/connects us with entrepreneurs and I think that’s so important.
