Residents in the Shuswap and South Thompson should be careful when buying jewelry.
According to Salmon Arm RCMP, there have been two recent cases reported to police where residents purchasing "gold jewelry" in parking lots later find they've been duped.
Both individuals from these cases found that they purchased "fake gold" jewelry and are out hundreds of dollars.
"Buying jewelry in a parking lot from people who are not known to you is not a good idea," wrote S/Sgt. Scott West. "If it seems 'too be too good to be true,' or just a great deal in a parking lot, it is probably a scam of one kind or another."
Residents who are approached in parking lots are advised to politely decline, keep walking, and call 911.
