School District 73 and the Kamloops Music Collective announced on Thursday that they have entered a formal agreement that will benefit SD73 students looking to take up music.
Under the terms of the agreement, SD73 will provide $15,000 in annual funding that will help offset the cost of facility rentals, which will keep the cost for Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music (KISSM) as low as possible for students.
“The opportunities provided by the Kamloops Music Collective is part of what makes Kamloops such a unique community for students,” said Alison Sidow, SD73 Superintendent. “We are pleased to support their efforts, and we know this agreement will help encourage more students to connect to their interests and passions.”
As part of the agreement, the KMC will support SD73 music programs through the Whole Note, BAND Together, and KMC Outreach. KMC is also set to offer special events including a Jazz Jam and String Wrap Up.
“Over the past several years, we have worked hard to leverage the success of the Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music with a goal of creating further music opportunities for youth in our city,” said Kim Mangan, KMC Executive Director. “Much of our expanded work has benefited SD73 music students and this formalized agreement means that we can continue to support youth in Kamloops who are passionate about music.”
