RCMP warn of ‘dangerous sex offender’ to reside in Kamloops

A notorious sex offender is set to be released into Kamloops, leading police to warn the public about his arrival.

On Saturday, Kamloops RCMP released a public interest notification regarding “dangerous sex offender” Taylor Dueck.

The 30-year-old has been convicted of sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon/threat/bodily harm and sexual interference of a person under 16.

“Taylor Dueck will be released into the community on probation after completing his provincial sentence,” wrote the RCMP.

“He represents a serious and imminent risk to persons under the age of 16, including children.”

Dueck has several conditions to his probation, including:

• He must stay inside his residence or on its property 24 hours a day.
• He is not allowed to go to any public park, swimming area, community centre, theatre, daycare, school ground or playground, where persons under the age of 16 are present or can be expected to be present.
• He must not have any communication directly or indirectly, or be in the presence of any person under the age of 16.

Anyone who sees Dueck violating any of his probation conditions is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.

Dueck is described as:

• Height 5’ 9
• Approximately 175 lbs
• Medium complexion
• Blue eyes
• Brown hair, balding

In February of 2024, Dueck was arrested in Kelowna and charged with invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference and breaching probation after an incident at a local equestrian school.

Following his arrest, an investigation was launched into how and why Dueck was released into the community with no warning to the public.

“While children were arriving for after-school lessons, this convicted child molester's supervisor sat in the parking lot in his vehicle for two and a half hours,” said former Kelowna-Mission MLA Renee Merrifield during Question Period on March 5, 2024.

“The result was an 11-year-old girl being cornered and sexually assaulted in the bathroom by this predator.”

The Kelowna RCMP told NowMedia in March 2024 that the detachment sought a Public Interest Disclosure (PID) before Dueck was released into the community, but were told “the threshold was not met in this case based on the totality of the circumstances.”

On Feb. 3, 2020, the Abbotsford Police Department issued a PID about Dueck. Mission RCMP also issued a PID about Dueck in February 2020.
