RCMP investigating after molotov cocktail starts fire on North Shore deck

The Kamloops RCMP are seeking the suspects and video of a fire that sparked under a house’s deck early Thursday morning.

According to a release issued Thursday afternoon, officers were called to a house on the 200-block of Spruce Avenue where a person had heard a “loudbanging” outside and found a fire on their deck.

The incident happened just after 4:15 am, says Cpl. Crystal Evelyn in a release.

“The resident was able to quickly put out the fire with an extinguisher, then call police after locating what was described as a molotov cocktail,” said Cpl. Evelyn.

“Luckily, no one was injured during this concerning incident, although there was some damage to the house’s deck and exterior.”

Multiple officers attended the area, including the Police Dog Service Unit and the Kamloops RCMP detachment fire investigator, searched the area and found “several” similar incendiary devices were located in the yard and the alley.

Investigators are now asking anyone in the area, including those who live on streets neighbouring the alleyway, to please check their security cameras and dash cam video to see if it captured anything suspicious related to the incident.

Those who witnessed or have information are asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at (250) 828-3000 and reference file 2024-9020.
