The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit (MCU) is taking over the investigation into the disappearance of Dillen Bain.
Last seen on Aug. 22, the 25-year-old was reported missing to the Kamloops RCMP a few days later and the case is now deemed to be suspicious.
A statement from the RCMP says the identity of a body recovered in a vehicle fire on Tranquille-Criss Creek Road on Aug. 23 has not yet been confirmed, but police and the BC Coroners Service are investigating possible connections.
While the MCU’s involvement in a missing persons case would indicate the possibility of foul play, the RCMP did not clarify whether Bain was still alive or not.
His mother did, however, in a post shared to her social media late Tuesday night.
“It is with the heaviest heart and unimaginable sorrow that I share the news no parent should ever have to give,” Bain’s mother Tina shared on Facebook. “My beautiful son, Dillen, has been found, but not in the way we had all prayed for.”
“My fight is not over,” she added. “I still need answers.”
Tina Bain urged anyone with information to contact the MCU tip line at 1-877-987-8477, which is what investigators are asking the public to do as well.
“MCU investigators are looking for public assistance in determining the circumstances that led to Dillen’s disappearance,” S/Sgt Jason Smart said in a media release.
“If you have any information related to Dillen Bain’s disappearance, please contact the RCMP.”
Police reshared Bain’s description in hopes that it triggered the memories of witnesses that may have seen what happened to the young man.
He’s described as a Caucasian male standing 5’10” and 185 lbs with brown hair, brown eyes and a full-sleeve tattoo on his left arm.
