A Kamloops student was given an exciting chance by the Kamloops RCMP last month.
Caleb Kilba, a Rayleigh Elementary School student, beat the odds and was lucky enough to name an RCMP puppy.
Each year, the RCMP Police Dog Services Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta has a "Name the Puppy" contest. To enter, children had to be under the age of 14 and a Canadian citizen.
Only 13 names were chosen, and Kilba's entry was one of them. His choice for the puppy was "Marlow."
The Police Dog Services Unit attended the school on June 25th to present Kilba with a prize. He was given an RCMP baseball cap, a plush dog named Justice, and a photo of the puppy he named.
Marlow will be trained in searching for missing or lost people, tracking and apprehending criminals, the removal of illicit drugs from the streets, detecting explosives, and searching for evidence at crime scenes.
