A man from Kamloops is okay after being hit by a car in Peachland on Monday while trying to cross Hwy 97.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 6 p.m. after the man was hit in a southbound lane of the highway.
According to a witness from the scene, the man parked his vehicle along the shoulder of the northbound lane near Clements Crescent before attempting to cross the highway. He made it across the northbound lanes but was hit by a Toyota Corolla whole crossing the southbound lanes of the undivided road.
“According to investigative reports from the scene, the northbound lanes of the highway were empty and southbound traffic was slowing or stopped for a red light at the nearby intersection.”
“The pedestrian crossed at an uncontrolled portion of the highway, and reportedly emerged from between stationary vehicles when he was struck by the Toyota now moving forward in the right-hand turn lane.”
The man was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was released later that day.
Police say the 60-year-old female driver from Peachland was noticeably shaken, but remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
