Kamloops RCMP name Inspector Jeff Pelley as new officer in charge

The Kamloops RCMP have a new officer in charge, following the announcement the Superintendent Lecky would be leaving the position.

Mayor Ken Christian, CAO David Trawin and the Southeast District RCMP interview Inspector Jeff Peeley believed he was the right fit for the job.

“Jeff has extensive general duty experience, strong leadership skills, and a capacity to triage serious incidents,” says Mayor Ken Christian.

“From gangs and drugs to domestic and mental health concerns, Jeff will lead from the front and is committed to calming the streets and making Kamloops a safer city.”

Inspector Pelley, who was raised near Kamloops, has over 20 years policing experience.

He has worked in Prince Rupert, Kamloops, Kelowna, 100 Mile House, New Hazelton, North District, and Williams Lake.

Pelley has also worked in a variety of positions from frontline operations to becoming the detachment commander in New Hazelton and Williams Lake.

“Inspector Jeff Pelley joined our team as our operations officer and seamlessly transitioned into his role,” says Supt. Syd Lecky.

"His impact was immediate, demonstrating leadership, professionalism, and community engagement from the start.”

During his career he has been recognized for resolution skills, strategic planning, and enforcement strategies involving gang and offender violence, explains a release from the city.

The RCMP will develop a plan to ensure a smooth transition over the coming weeks and once Pelley assumes the role and responsibilities, he will be formally promoted to the rank of superintendent.

“I am thankful to be selected as the Kamloops Detachment Commander and extremely grateful,” says Inspector Jeff Pelley.

“I look forward to building on the current successes of all the women and men and to making our community safer, as it is an amazing place to work and live."
