“This event is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, as well as members of the extended TRU, volleyball and Kamloops communities whose lives have been touched by Owyn,” says the TRU Wolfpack website.

McInnis was killed in a serious multi-vehicle collision in Kamloops near the TRU campus on Nov. 29.

Two of his teammates who were also in the vehicle at the time, Kelowna products Owen Waterhouse and Riley Brinnen, were critically injured in the crash.

“Owyn was a son, brother, fiancé, teammate and so much more,” said a statement from TRU in the wake of the fatal accident. “He brightened the day of anyone lucky enough to talk with him and we miss him greatly.”

Thanks to an initial contribution of $20,000 from two anonymous donors, a scholarship fund was created in McInnis’ memory.

The crash that claimed his life remains under investigation.
