For the second time today, Interior Health has declared a new COVID-19 outbreak.
This one comes at Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre, which is a long-term care home in Kamloops.
“Four residents have tested positive for COVID-19,” said a statement from IH. “Everyone in close contact with these individuals are in self-isolation and monitoring for symptoms.”
Fortunately, there’s no indication of a connection to other facilities in Kamloops.
IH will continue to monitor the situation, as well as implement additional infection control and preventative measures.
For now, outbreak protocols are in place to protect the safety of residents, which includes a pause in all visits at the site with an exception for patients nearing end of life.
Gemstone has 125 publicly funded and five private long-term care beds and is operated by Trellis Seniors Services Ltc.
