Penticton's newest co-work space is also the city's newest urban wine tasting venue and pop-up bottle shop.
The Standard Space at 124 Estabrook Ave. downtown is a converted garage door factory that's found new life as a co-working and event space.
One of those events is The Standard.Sampled, every Friday, 4 to 6:30 pm -- the aforementioned urban wine tasting series with pop-up bottle shop.
"Consider it the unofficial launch to weekends in Penticton," said Dallas Thor, who owns The Standard Space with her husband, Eric, and a partner.
"It's happening every Friday happy hour at The Standard Space. Stop by, have a taste and take home a bottle from the pop-up store by Martin Street Liquor. We hope it will be bustling each week."
The Thors are also the proprietors of Terravista Vineyards on the Naramata Bench -- thus the wine happy hour tie-ins Fridays at The Standard.
In addition to Terravista vintages, The Standard.Sampled series will also see wines poured by Synchromesh, Terravista's joint-venture partner from Okanagan Falls, and a rotating array of other small, family-owned Okanagan wineries.
For this Friday's, June 7th launch, Terravista and Synchromesh will be joined by Roche from the Naramata Bench, Blue Mountain from Okanagan Falls and Code from Okanagan Falls.
You can taste five samples from any of the wineries for $15.
The list of participating wineries will be updated weekly with the hope being you return time and time again to sample the ever-changing line up of wines.
The Standard.Sampled series runs every Friday through July 26.
Chulo Tapas restaurant, which is located within The Standard, will be cooking up pintxos (Spanish-inspired bites on skewers) that wine tasters can purchase.
The goal is to create an energetic Friday happy hour vibe every week in a funky space.
In future weeks, there may also be some market vendors selling their wares at the happy hours.
The Standard Space is in the same transitioning former industrial area downtown that's becoming trendy with other hospitality businesses such as Yellow Dog Pub, Neighbourhood Brewing and Wayne and Freda Coffee.
The industrial-style warehouse setting of The Standard Space operates Monday through Friday as a co-work space.
The space can also host meetings, workshops, seminars, receptions, art exhibitions and parties.
