Over the past few months, industry constraints due to COVID-19 have forced McDonald’s Canada to source some of its beef from outside Canada.
With things starting to slowly return to normal, the fast-food chain announced that it’ll be reverting back to 100% Canadian beef in September.
Aside from the last four months, McDonald’s Canada has been using 100% Canadian beef since 2003.
"For nearly two decades, we've maintained a strong commitment to sourcing Canadian beef – we are incredibly proud of the role we've played in supporting local ranchers and farmers," said Nicole Zeni, the senior manager of McDonald's Canada supply chain.
"In these challenging times, our ability to return to sourcing 100% of our beef from Canadian sources is a true testament to the resiliency of the industry."
Even during COVID-19, the fast-food chain has still been trying to source as much Canadian beef as possible and has maintained over 80% of supply from Canadian sources on average.
All other non-Canadian suppliers used during the pandemic were from McDonald’s pre-approved list.
