Every once in a while you see a beer in a liquor store or come across your social media feed that makes you go, “oh my god I need to try that.”
That was certainly the case with this unique collaboration and I’m sad to say I have not yet tried it, but I wanted to put the beer on your radar because I feel like it will fly off liquor store shelves quickly.
Squamish’s Backcountry Brewing and Vancouver’s Superplux Beer Company worked together to create a soft serve ice cream sour made with black currant, sour cherries and plum.

Of course, sticking true to the Backcountry way, it has a super long and creative name based on a quote from the pop culture world.
It’s called ‘Your Scientists Were So Preoccupied with Whether or Not They Could, they didn't Stop to Think if They Should’, an ode to Jeff Goldblum’s famous line from Jurassic Park.
A social media post from Backcountry explains that this creative beer is “a culmination of experimentation and inspiration from a number of different breweries.”
It adds that Backcountry brewer Jimmy Coleman was “a big driving force” behind the concept, introducing the team to similar beers before seeing through the research and development that led to the exciting collaboration with Superflux.

So how did Coleman and the rest of the brewers go about making this diabolical creation?
They started with a “boozy” base sour, then blended it down with “insane amounts” of fruit puree and soft serve ice cream.
The result is a scrumptious-looking 4.5% ABV beer that could easily be mistaken for a smoothie, and it's getting rave early reviews on Untappd.
As usual, I’m writing this column on Friday to be posted on Saturday, and I plan to have one of these beers in my belly by the end of the weekend.
