This isn’t your ordinary IPA.
It’s not even your ordinary Session IPA, a type of beer that I love and have featured in this column before.
This IPA takes light to a new level, so much so that its ABV is far closer to a Radler than a Coors Light.
It’s the Ultralite IPA and it’s the perfect beer for an hop fan who’s looking to pound a few back on a summer long weekend while wanting to maintain a hint of sobriety.
The award-winning beer from Four Winds Brewing Co. in Delta comes in at 2.9% ABV and 35 IBUs.
It’s juicy and hoppy, with tasting notes of mango, passionfruit and the classic pine you crave in a well-made IPA.
“Infused with aromas of spruce, papaya, guava, and cassis, and boasting vibrant coniferous and tropical fruit notes, Ultralite offers a light yet satisfying IPA that doesn’t skimp on flavour,” a post from Four Winds explains.
Earlier this year, the Ultralite IPA won the gold medal in the Session India Pale Ale category of the Canadian Brewing Awards.
It was one of two Four Winds beers to medal in that category, as the brewery’s Featherweight IPA secured the bronze.
The Featherweight is more of a classic Session IPA at 4.5% ABV and 60 IBUs if you’re looking for an option that’s still lighter than a standard IPA but not quite as tame as the Ultralite.
And, of course, Four Winds has a pair of fantastic staples in the Juxtapose IPA and Greg West Coast IPA that are more traditional, both coming in at 6.5% ABV.
You really can’t go wrong with any Four Winds creations, as the brewery has been pushing out world-class beers for over a decade after opening its doors in the summer of 2013.
You can find the Ultralite, Featherweight, Juxtapose, Greg and plenty other Four Winds beers at liquor stores all over the province.
