No other producer of craft beer in British Columbia seems to love sours more than Dead Frog Brewery.
The Langley establishment has released so many colourful and intriguing sours, with flavours ranging from classic fruit combinations to unique brews that capture the tastes of summer you fondly remember from childhood.
Their sour roster is highlighted by the Juice Box, a mixed pack featuring four different sours that I wrote about last summer.
However, the Juice Box has changed since then with three of the four beers being new, so I’ll get to that in a moment.
First I want to highlight the brewery’s newest creation in the 4.2% ABV (alcohol by volume) Peach Creamsicle Sour.
It’s creamy, juicy and refreshing, packed with fresh peach flavour and smooth vanilla to make it what the brewery calls “the perfect summertime craft brew.”
The creaminess comes from lactose, which also makes it a little less tart than a lot of classic sours.
Unfortunately, it also might mean an upset stomach for those who are lactose intolerant.
Now, back to the Juice Box, which featured the Rocket Pop, Blueberry Lemonade, Watermelon Warhead Imperial and Mango Sorbet sours last summer.
The Rocket Pop is the only holdover in this year’s box.
The high-ABV Watermelon Warhead Imperial Sour has been replaced by the similar Blueberry Warhead Imperial Sour.
As a result, the Blueberry Lemonade Sour is out and a Peach Lemonade Sour is in. The Mango Sorbet Sour has also disappeared with a Raspberry Lime Sour taking its place.
Did you follow all that? Good.
The Juice Box is a perfect option for sour lovers who want to get a little variety without breaking the bank, as you can grab them for under $25 at most BC Liquor Stores.
If you just want to try Dead Frog’s new Peach Creamsicle Sour on its own, you’ll have to track it down at a local private liquor store that focuses on craft beer.
