The 7th annual Walk of Hope scheduled for the first weekend of September

The annual Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope will be returning to Kelowna on Sunday, September 8th.

For its seventh year, the event will take place in Mission Creek Park and cultivate a sense of community for those affected by ovarian cancer, in addition to raising funds for research into the cause and cure.

“This event is important because its primary purpose is to not only raise funds but to also celebrate survivors in our community,” said Kelly Taverner a co-chair of the walk.

“Ovarian cancer is a very rare form of cancer and it's not uncommon for survivors to feel alone,” added Taverner.

“The treatment is fast, furious and overwhelming so we are gathering to celebrate and bring together families affected by ovarian cancer to offer support through the motions.”

Kicking off at 8:30 am, the event will welcome survivor speakers to share their triumphs with attendees. An oncologist will also provide an update on the progress of research being made right here in British Columbia.

Both before and after the walk, participants can browse various vendors tables, enjoy coffee and food, get their faces painted prior and even capture the memory at the photo booth.

So far the event has reached 20% of their fundraising goal, however, they still have a fair bit to go.

“No matter what we end up raising we will celebrate,” said Taverner. “The funds we do gather will go toward research within the province as well as patient support programs.”

Attendees can look forward to a scenic 2.5 or 5 kilometre walk along Mission Creek with friends, family and even their pup!

Registration is already open online for those of you eager to sign up and start rallying for the cause.
