Ed Sheeran’s Saturday night concert has set a new attendance record for BC Place.
Sheeran’s 2023 +–=÷x Tour brought an unprecedented amount of fans to the Vancouver stadium, which is the largest multipurpose venue in Western Canada.
Chris May, general manager of BC Place, says 65,061 fans attended the show.
"Congratulations to Ed Sheeran on his remarkable achievement of breaking the attendance record at BC Place Stadium,” said May.
“The energy and excitement radiating from the crowd were nothing short of electric.”
May added that the fact the new attendance record happened in BC Place’s 40th anniversary year was both “humbling and inspiring.”
The record was last seen in 2009 when a U2 concert brought 63,802 fans.
However, this new record could be broken with four more highly anticipated concerns on the schedule.
That includes Beyonce on Sept. 11, Coldplay on Sept. 22-23 and Guns N’ Roses on Oct. 16.
“Ed Sheeran’s historic performance not only brought joy to thousands of fans but also showcased Vancouver's welcoming spirit,” said Lana Popham, minister of tourism, arts, culture and sport.
“Congratulations to both Ed Sheeran and BC Place for an incredible achievement”.
