Cause of death revealed for The Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan

The music world lost an iconic singer in January, when Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries was found dead in a London hotel room.

Now, nearly nine months later, the 46-year-old’s cause of death has been revealed by a U.K. coroner on Thursday.

Although her death was often rumoured and believed to be by suicide, that doesn’t appear to have been the case.

According to The Telegraph, the inquest at Westminster Coroner’s Court heard that O’Riordan drowned in a bathtub due to alcohol intoxication and her death was confirmed as an accident.

There were five empty miniature spirit bottles in the room, along with a bottle of champagne.

Containers of prescription drugs were also found, but the toxicology results showed “therapeutic” amounts of medication in her blood.

However, she had 330 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, which means she was more than four times the legal limit for driving.

Following the news about her cause of death, The Cranberries released a statement saying they “continue to struggle to come to terms with what happened.”

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dolores’ children and her family and our thoughts are with them today.”

The statement continued on to say O’Riordan will live on eternally through her music and they take great comfort in seeing how much of a positive impact she had on people’s lives.
