BC houseguests in trouble after 1st week in Big Brother Canada house

Big Brother Canada is back and isn't skipping a beat since it was cancelled due to COVID-19 last year.

We've now seen three episodes of the hit series and there are only 13 houseguests left. The show started with a groundbreaking episode that saw the cast split into two teams that would compete against each other.

Haida Gwaii's Kiefer Collison and Newfoundland's Tina Thistle were named captains of Team Defender and Team Destiny, respectively. Team Defender consisted of Collison, Breydon White, Julie Vu, Jedson Tavernier, Latoya Anderson, Josh Farnworth and Rohan Kapoor while Team Destiny was Thistle, Austin Dookwah, Beth Bieda, Kyle Moore, Tera Gillen-Petrozzi, Tychon Carter-Newman and Victoria Woghiren.

Team Destiny won the first competition of the season, which saw the houseguests hold barrels of sludge over a bat of liquid. Since Victoria was the last competitor standing, this meant that Team Defender had to vote one of their own out.

Unfortunately, British Columbia suffered the first casualty. Julie, the first transgender woman to ever compete on the show, was the first houseguest evicted after a 12-2 vote.

The Vancouver native's game began to unravel after she tried to form a "queer alliance" with a goal to go after the men in the house. Latoya, a Pickering, Ont. police officer, didn't think Julie could be trusted, which eventually led to her demise.

Only a few alliances began to form during the first two episodes. Latoya, Jedson and Tychon were connected while Austin and Breydon called themselves "The Dolls."

After the eviction came the first Head of Household competition of the season. The 13 remaining houseguests participated in an archery-military-inspired endurance competition.

Austin held up her bow for the longest amount of time to win the first HOH. This meant she, Breydon and her bestie Beth were safe for at least another week.

Her next job was to nominate two houseguests for eviction. After briefly talking about a plan to backdoor Latoya, Austin decided to nominate both Kiefer and Josh as a safe option.

Up next, the two nominees and three other houseguests will compete in the power of veto. The winner of the competition will have the choice to take either houseguest off the block, which will mean Austin will need to name a replacement.

Shown below is where I believe some of the houseguests stand inside the BBC house:

Running the game:

  • Latoya: This girl is a savage. She has one goal and that is to win this show and she doesn't care who she has to cut along the way. At this point, the other houseguests know this and don't seem keen to cross her.
  • Tychon: Tychon is strong, smooth and charming. He and Jedson are a strong pair that will be very hard to attack in this game. Plus, he's been getting real close to Beth lately.
  • Jedson: Working as the "Undercover Brothers" with Tychon, this man has shown strength and a willingness to connect with people. He has ties to Latoya, Kiefer and Austin, just to name a few.

Fan Favourites:

  • Victoria: Vic is loud and proud and fans are loving it. She impressed many after winning the first competition of the season and has captured hearts for being just so grateful to be there.
  • Julie: People were sad to see Julie Vu leave the game this early, I know I was. She was fun, interesting and had a great story. Here's hoping she gets another chance.
  • Austin: Winning the first HOH always looks good and Austin is proving that she is way more than just a pretty face this season. It would be hard for someone to take a shot at her any time soon.

In trouble:

  • Josh: BC could be down to a single contestant after this week and there is a good chance it won't be Josh. Julie dragged him before she got evicted and the houseguests noticed. Here's hoping he can make it through.
  • Rohan: Rohan has friends in the house, though his name constantly gets brought up in nomination talks. Rohan getting put on the block could mean good things for Josh.
  • Kiefer: Having lost one teammate already and losing another could be deadly for Kiefer. BC's chances are not looking amazing right now.

Thoughts from John Luke:

Though It's a little bittersweet watching Big Brother after our season came to an abrupt end last year, I have been pleasantly surprised by this cast. They are diverse, fun, talented, gorgeous and more. These first three episodes have been entertaining and I think there is loads more in store. My favourite houseguests so far are Jedson, Tychon, Austin and Beth with a little bit of a soft spot for Josh. The four have been playing strong, smart and have set themselves up to go far in the game. The latter is having trouble but is a loveable underdog. Those I don't believe I would vibe with include Victoria and Tina, though they are playing solid games. If I were in this house, I think I would be most scared of Latoya's game. She plays in the shadows and is good at getting people to do what she wants.

These opinions are just based on the three aired episodes. Those looking for up-to-date information are encouraged to check out the BBC live feeds.
