Controversial and out-spoken Canadian author, Jordan Peterson is scheduled to stop in Kelowna on May 26 as a part of his Beyond Order world tour.
However, a petition has emerged calling for Mayor Tom Dyas to cancel the event.
The petition on change.org was launched a few days ago by Brent Forder and at the time of writing this article had received 202 signatures.
“Mr. Peterson's views directly jeopardize the safety and well-being of marginalized communities, especially women, transgender and gender non-conforming people,” says the petition’s description.
“Violence against women and 2SLGTBQIA+ folks starts with words so giving this man a platform to speak is directly impacting safety of marginalized communities.”
Peterson responded on Twitter this morning, saying he's "been cancelled by better people than this sorry lot. Virtue-signaling censorious narcissists."
Peterson has authored several books, but 12 Rules for Life and its sequel Beyond Order have become infamous on social media and in political conversations.
The topic of Peterson is a polarizing one in the community and that can be seen in the comments of social media posts about the petition.
There is also a protest being planned to take place outside Prospera Place the night of the event, but the demonstration might be moved to in front of city hall.
