Interior Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in the small community of Canim Lake, located around 40 kilometres east of 100 Mile House.
The health authority says that it’s seen “increased COVID-19 activity” throughout the 100 Mile House region and “rapid spread” in Canim Lake.
There have been 32 cases identified in people who reside in the region and are linked to Canim Lake.
“IH is overseeing COVID-19 outreach testing, contact tracing, transportation and isolation for affected individuals with support from local community health services,” said a statement from IH.
"The Canim Lake First Nation has taken extraordinary efforts to ensure public health and safety and are working collaboratively with neighbouring communities to mitigate the risk factors associated with the rapid transmission of the virus.”
IH is coordinating its outbreak response activities alongside the Canim Lake First Nation, the First Nations Health Authority, Emergency Management BC and others.
Everyone in the region is reminded to avoid social gatherings and limit socialization to household bubbles only.
