COVID-19 outbreak at Mission jail declared over, 9 new cases announced in BC

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced nine new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.

BC also confirmed two additional deaths, both of which were in long term care homes in the Fraser Health region.

There are 241 active cases remaining in BC, thirty-three of them are in hospital and six of those are in intensive care.

The outbreak at the Mission federal prison, one of the largest outbreaks in BC, has now been declared over having gone two incubation periods with no new cases.

Henry said Thursday that she has updated a public health order so that farmer’s markets can now sell non-food products.

The new order will also allow outdoor dining at such markets, subject to physical distancing.

Earlier Thursday, ICBC announced it was resuming knowledge tests, while numerous municipalities around BC beginning to reopening playgrounds.

On Wednesday, Premier John Horgan extended the provincial state of emergency by another two weeks, making it the longest state of emergency in BC's history.
