BC reports near record high 1,262 daily COVID cases, over 1-million residents now vaccinated

Health officials reported 1,262 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, along with two additional deaths.

Friday's daily case numbers fall just short of Thursday's all-time high of 1,293 new cases.

Of Friday's new cases, 358 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 638 in Fraser Health, 54 in Island Health, 132 in Interior Health and 79 in Northern Health.

There are currently 332 people in hospital, 102 of whom are in critical or intensive care.

To date, 1,025,019 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in BC, including 87,606 second doses.

“This is a significant milestone for all of us, and we will continue to work to get vaccines into arms as soon as we can," said Dr. Bonnie Henry in a written statement.

"Today, people 65 and older, Indigenous peoples 18 and over, and individuals who have received their ‘clinically extremely vulnerable’ letter may register for their vaccine."

There are currently 105 active cases of COVID-19 variants in BC.

All but one case are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, with that lone case being in the Fraser Health region.

“Avoid indoor gatherings outside of your household and avoid travel," added Dr. Bonnie Henry.

"This is how we will slow the spread and get ahead of the virus strains that are in our communities right now."
