BC reports 1,330 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, 87,346 have now been vaccinated

On Monday, Health officials reported 1,330 new cases of COVID-19 were identified over the weekend.

There were 584 cases from Friday to Saturday, 445 cases from Saturday to Sunday and 301 cases from Sunday to Monday.

BC has not seen such a low single-day case number since Nov. 3, 2020, when 299 cases were recorded.

Dr. Bonnie Henry announced the new cases, along with 31 deaths, bringing BC's death toll to 1,078 people.

Currently, there still remained 343 people in hospital and 68 people in ICU.

Henry reported that 13 of the new cases are Temporary Farm Workers (TFW) who have arrived in BC for the approaching season.

Officials have continued the hotel quarantine program that houses TFWs for 14-days before deploying them to farms.

As of Monday, 87,346 people in B.C. had received at least one dose of vaccine, but delays in shipments will begin the impact the rollout plan.

Henry said on Monday that the delay is a "setback" and will temporarily slow the province's delivery of the vaccine to at-risk people.

"We have been able to rearrange and look at process that we have to make sure we are continuing to give first doses to those at highest risk and that we get second doses to people at day 35," she said.

"The focus will be on second doses next week and the next week after, and then going back to first doses for those at risk."

There are currently 4,326 active cases of the virus in BC, a number which Henry said continues to trend in the right direction.
