Another 8,000 vaccinated as Interior Health reports 72 new COVID-19 cases

Another 72 cases of COVID-19 were identified in the BC Interior over the past 24 hours.

It brings the region to 9,666 total cases since the start of the pandemic, with 916 currently active.

There are 24 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the BC Interior and 10 of them are in critical care.

Interior Health’s pandemic death toll remains at 120, as no new deaths were reported since Monday.

The health authority’s daily vaccination total continues to get higher every day, with more than 8,000 people getting a shot over the past 24 hours.

It brings the total number of BC Interior residents to receive at least one dose of the vaccine to 158,259.

Here’s an update from IH on its three active COVID-19 outbreaks:

  • Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 29 cases: 26 residents and three staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
  • Kelowna General Hospital unit 4E has three cases: one patient and two staff.
  • Vernon Jubilee Hospital Level 3 surgical unit has 14 cases: 10 patients and four staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
