299 new COVID-19 cases over weekend brings BC Interior up to 900 active cases

Another 299 cases of COVID-19 were identified in the BC Interior over the past three days.

It brings the region to 9,594 total cases since the start of the pandemic, with 900 currently active.

That active case number continues to rise after getting down to just over 300 two weeks ago.

There are 24 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in the BC Interior and 13 of them are in critical care.

Unfortunately, there were also two more deaths to report over the weekend, bringing Interior Health’s pandemic death toll to 120.

On a positive note, IH’s vaccination program continued to chug along this weekend, with another 16,000 receiving their first poke.

There are now more than 150,000 BC Interior residents who have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Here’s an update from the health authority on its three active outbreaks:

  • Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 28 cases: 25 residents and three staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
  • Kelowna General Hospital unit 4E has three cases: one patient and two staff.
  • Vernon Jubilee Hospital Level 3 surgical unit has 14 cases: 10 patients and four staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
