Train crash in the Interior leaves 1 person dead

A person is dead following a collision between and train and a car near Williams Lake on Tuesday.

According to police, at 5:59 pm, officers were called to a crash between a Nissan Versa and a CN Rail Train. The incident occurred at a marked rail crossing on Soda Creek Town Site Road.

The vehicle in question reportedly crossed a stop sign-controlled rail crossing and collided with the eastbound train. This collision caused the Nissan Versa to roll, ejecting the driver in the process.

Sadly, the Williams Lake resident was pronounced dead at the scene. This is the second crash CN has been a part of this week.

CN Police were notified of the incident and are assisting RCMP with the investigation. The train, which consisted of 29 rail cars, including three engines, did not derail.
