Police confirm crash on Hwy 1 near Ashcroft was a double fatality

Police in BC’s Thompson region have confirmed that a single vehicle crash on Sunday was fatal.

The accident happened in the 1900 block of the Trans Canada Highway near Ashcroft shortly after 10 pm.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene of the crash, they found the driver and two passengers.

Sadly, the driver and one of the passengers had died due to injuries they sustained in the crash.

The second passenger was found outside of the SUV with serious, life threatening injuries, the police said in a news release.

Emergency personnel transported the person to a nearby hospital.

“Evidence collected so far suggests the vehicle was travelling far above the speed limit when it veered right off the road, striking a culvert and overturning,” the news release said.

However, the crash remains under investigation.

The Ashcroft RCMP are asking any potential witnesses to give them a call at (250) 453-2216.
