Police boat needed after BC Interior man swims to raft in middle of lake after domestic incident

Members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team were called in to help with a police situation in Chase this weekend.

The Chase RCMP initially responded to a family home on Squilax-Anglemont Road in Chase for reports of a domestic incident around 3:30 pm.

In a media release, police explained that the 32-year-old Chase man “threatened to harm other family members.”

The man threatened to use a weapon, the RCMP release noted, which prompted the call to the SDERT for further assistance.

By the time officers arrived at the scene, the man had left the home and swam to a raft in the middle of the lake.

“Officers had to travel by boat to reach him,” police said. “The man was safely apprehended.”

It’s believed the suspect was suffering from mental health issues, so he was transported by officers to a local hospital.

The Chase RCMP continues to investigate the incident.
