The Vernon RCMP are investigating a “suspicious” situation involving a SUV being hit by a projectile from some type of firearm while travelling northbound on Highway 97A this week.
In a news release, police say a silver SUV was travelling north of Greenhow Road between 8:15 and 8:25 pm on Monday when the driver heard a loud bang and believed something had been thrown at their vehicle.
While travelling, the driver of the silver SUV noticed a dark coloured SUV following in the same direction.
Police said the driver of the silver SUV pulled over to try and inspect the damage but the dark coloured SUV pulled up and the driver allegedly had a verbal altercation with the occupants of the other vehicle.
A second vehicle also pulled in behind the silver SUV but didn’t interact with either driver and quickly pulled back onto Hwy 97A and continued travelling northbound.
The dark coloured SUV left the scene shortly after without further interaction.
According to the RCMP, the driver of the silver SUV couldn’t properly inspect the damage to their vehicle until they got to their final destination.
That is when they found a single hole in the rear driver’s side, which police believe is the result of a projectile from a firearm.
The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are looking to speak with the occupants of the second vehicle that pulled in behind the two SUVs.
They are also looking for any dashcam footage from any vehicles that were travelling in either direction on Hwy 97A around the time of the incident.
Anyone with information about the suspicious incident is asked to call the Armstrong RCMP’s non-emergency line at 9250) 546-3028 and refer to file 2025-548.
