A Merritt man has been arrested and is due in court early next month after allegedly breaking into a house with a gun and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, say the RCMP.
The Southeast District Emergency Response Team was called to a house on Merritt’s Bann Street last Thursday night for a report of a break and enter.
Mounties say the man fled the residence prior to police arrival and was later located and arrested in the Diamondvale Mobile Park by the SEDERT.
At this time, police say it believes the incident appeared to be targeted because the suspect was known to both of the residents at the house and the residents in the mobile home park.
On Friday, Riley Hopkins was charged with several offences.
That includes uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unlawfully in a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence and daily to comply with probation order, police say.
He was released on a release order, $500 bail and is due in court on Oct. 8.
