Merritt RCMP investigating video showing pit bull 'violently' attacking a goat

Mounties in the BC Interior are investigating a disturbing video that was being circulated online depicting animal cruelty.

On Nov. 24, officers with the Merritt RCMP were notified of the video, which shows a pit bull “violently” attacking a white goat inside a house, where onlookers reportedly stood by encouraging the attack.

A release says offices were able to identify the home, located in the 2600-block of Granite Avenue, and obtained a search warrant under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Due to the seriousness of the investigation, the South East District Emergency Response Team was called in for support in executing the search warrant. The BC SPCA was also called in.

Sadly, officers found remains of the goat during the search, according to S/Sgt. Josh Roda.

“We are trying to identify where the goat came from. We would like to determine if the goat was stolen, sold or given away,” Roda says.

The release includes a screenshot from the video showing the goat had a white body, brown on the top of its head and was wearing a collar in the video.

Anyone with information about the goat is asked to call the Merritt RCMP at (250) 378-4262.
