An overturned motorhome has been sitting in the Similkameen River since late July.
That’s according to both the Upper and Lower Similkameen Indian Bands (USIB/LSIB), who are trying to find out why the vehicle has been there for nearly a month.
According to a statement issued by the LSIB, the recreational vehicle ended up in the waterway off Hwy 3, around seven kilometres east of Princeton, on July 26.
“The RCMP did call for a tow company to remove the vehicle,” the release explains.
Chiefs and councillors from both Bands have undergone communications to understand what happened and why the vehicle has not been removed from the river.
“The greatest concern right now is what has already leaked into the Similkameen River,” the release says, “with our next greatest concern being how this incident continued to go for so long without being actioned.”
The USIB and LSIB are currently engaging with several agencies in hopes of finding answers and getting the motorhome removed from the water.
That includes the Ministry of Environment and Parks, Ministry of Transportation and Transit, the Princeton RCMP, the Natural Resource Officer Service and the towing contractor.
“We expect that list to expand,” the Bands note in the release. “As we progress further, we will keep our communities and our neighbours updated on the progress.”
