Elderly man seriously injured in BC Interior dog attack

Police say no criminal charges are coming after a dog attacked a senior in the Kootenays late last week.

The RCMP was called to the scene in Montrose, just east of Trail, around 2:30 pm on Friday after learning that a 73-year-old man was seriously injured by a dog.

According to police, the elderly man was walking outside on the street near his home when the loose dog allegedly charged and attacked him.

“The man fought the dog off with his cane, but received injuries to his hand, leg and head during the incident,” an RCMP release explained.

Shortly after the attack, a family member of the dog’s owner arrived at the scene and secured the animal, later telling police that the dog may have escaped the yard through an open gate.

While no criminal charges are expected, the matter has been referred to BC SPCA animal protection officers.
