The mystery behind a series of Christmas decoration thefts across the Shuswap appears to be somewhat solved.
In recent days, both the Sicamous and Salmon Arm RCMP had received reports of large Christmas decorations being stolen from front yards in both communities.
A 10-foot tall Frosty the Snowman, a large Santa Claus and sleigh, a unicorn and a Grinch, all inflatable, had all been stolen.
However, a very keen citizen had seen these reports on social media and realized that the stolen decorations had all recently appeared as a holiday display on the front lawn of a southeast Salmon Arm residence.
She contacted the RCMP and officers from both the Salmon Arm and Sicamous detachments sprung into action to save Christmas.
“Mounties from both Sicamous and Salmon Arm attended the Salmon Arm home where they found, what they believed to be, all of the stolen decorations on display in front of the home,” said Sgt. Murray McNeil.
“When questioned by investigators, the resident advised they had recently purchased the items from an unnamed person and claimed they did not know they were stolen.”
Officers seized all the decorations and have since returned them to their rightful owners.
